ACOP Main Event Day 4: ElkY headed for the high roller
We've just received a piece of exciting news across our desk, but it doesn't involve the 14 remaining players here in the ACOP Main Event.
Tomorrow night will see the big boys come out to play in the HK$250,000 High Roller Event. Kicking off at 6:00pm, the best of the best will line up for an estimated prize pool in excess of HK$10,000,000.
There are plenty of highly talented players still in town who we are expecting to take part, including current Asia Player of the Year leader Jian Yang and the defending champion Jonathan Karamalikis. Last year, Karamalikis overcame a field of 39 entries to pocket the HK$3.7 million top prize.
However the exciting news is that this year, the field is set to be joined by the one and only Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier.
Grospellier has been busy in Paris at the WSOPE and then some commitments in Barcelona for Team PokerStars, so he was unable to make it for the ACOP Main Event. But he's a big fan of Macau and is jumping on a plane to get out here in time to take part in the ACOP High Roller Event tomorrow night.
With over $10.6 million in career earnings, including a WSOP bracelet, Grospellier is one of the premier players in the world, and it will be great to see him in action here at the Asia Championship of Poker.
Also expecting to take part are at least three players from the GuangDong Group which should see the number of entries push past 50, including the optional one rebuy each player is allowed.
It all kicks off at 6:00pm Saturday night in the PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams poker room, with live coverage of the final table on Sunday right here on the PokerStars blog.
