ACOP Main Event: Teja tops Day 1b
It was the second and final opportunity for players to hit the poker felt of the PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams poker room in Macau as Day 1b of the Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) HK$100,000 Main Event took centre stage.
There was much debate over how many entries we would see today, but in end, 110 confirmed their place in the Day 1b field to boost the total to 203 entrants. The top 25 players will finish in the money with a min-cash worth HK$198,000 while our eventual champion will take home the gold spadie and HK$4,752,000 in prize money.
Some of the notables in today's field included Kitty Kuo, Raj Ramakrishnan, Hung-sheng Lin, Ash Mason, Kyle Cheong, David Vamplew, John O'Shea, Kahle Burns, Brandon Meyers, Full Tilt Poker ambassador Tom Grigg, APPT Melbourne winner Billy Argyros, EPT champ Tom Middleton, WSOP bracelet winner Praz Bansi, former Aussie Millions champions Lee Nelson, Oliver Speidel and Mervin Chan, and the defending ACOP Main Event champ Xing Zhou.
We also had several members of Team PokerStars including Randy "nanonoko" Lew, Raymond Wu and the queen of poker in Asia, Celina Lin.
Wu was unfortunately an early casualty. He had a rough start to the day before committing the rest of his chips with king-jack on a jack-high flop, only to run into an opponent's flopped straight.
Both Lin and Lew had moments of brilliance, both winning big pots with flopped sets. Lew was able to carry that momentum to a strong 44,900 in chips by the end of the day, while Lin struggled late before bagging up 15,425.
A total of 92 players survived the day with Raj Ramakrishnan, Geoff Mooney, Ivan Zalac, Oliver Speidel and Brandon Meyers among those to fall during the four levels of play.
It appears that Satrya Teja is out in front today with a stack of 83,300. Not a runaway chip lead like we saw yesterday, but still good for fourth in chips entering Day 2 tomorrow.
Praz Bansi (80,100), Xing Zhou (62,350), Michael Tureniec (53,700), Tom Grigg (40,425), Billy Argyros (39,925), Kitty Kuo (38,850) and Lee Nelson (36,850) were just some of the others to successfully navigate their way through the day.
The surviving 169 players from both flights will come together on Wednesday afternoon as the ACOP Main Event rolls on. Play will recommence at the party-hangover-friendly time of 5pm (GMT+8) and once again we'll be here to bring you all of the action as unfolds on Day 2. If you're in Macau, then we'll see you poolside for a cocktail, and to everyone else, we hope you'll join our coverage again tomorrow!
