APPT9 Manila: Getting geared up for Day 1b
Day 1b of the APPT9 Manila Main Event is about to take off here at the luxurious City of Dreams Manila where a big gathering of players are already standing idly by itching for the go signal to enter the room. After a great turnout of 260 entries at yesterday's day one flight, including 241 unique players, it is very likely we will see a good number of re-entries geared up as only 75 players made the cut into day 2.
The highest number of players the APPT has ever recorded in the Philippines was 430 back in 2010, which tournament organizers are confident of breaking today.
For a quick recap on Day 1a, two Scandinavian players, namely Douglass Olsson from Sweden with 207,500 chips and Norwegian player Rolf Galasen with 203,800 chips claimed the top two spots, and were the only players who surpassed the 200K chip mark. Right on their heels is Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang and several notches down the ladder is Korea's leading lady, Vivian Im.
Another Team PokerStars Pro surviving the night, and with a decent stack, is China's Queen of Poker, Celina Lin. Lin seemed to be enjoying her night at the felt with Galasen beside her providing some light banter and some, let's say, live entertainment.
Interestingly, the host country turned up a good number of players, roughly around 35 or so, but only six of them advanced. One of those players was Jesse Leonarez who danced with the chip lead for some time to eventually close the day high up in the rung having surpassed the six-digit chip mark in the middle of the day.
At the moment, we see some notables outside the room such as local player Andrew Gaw and Carlos Chang from Taiwan, both of whom went deep at a few of the WSOP 2015 events, Gerard Bringley from Japan is also in line looking to run better than yesterday's early departure, Singaporean Jack Liew sits in wait with his headphones in full battery, and South Korean pro In Sin who went deep in the APPT Manila Warm-Up event.
We're now about ten minutes away from the first deal of the last flight of the PHP50,000 Main Event. For those who have already qualified into day 2, there will be an NLH Turbo at 6pm or some very lucrative cash games at the PokerStars LIVE Manila poker room. Whatever your poker fancy, there will be lots of action and poker games you can enter.
