EPT Barcelona: Doors open for day 1b
Yesterday 292 players cut the ribbon on the fifth season of the European Poker Tour. Familiar faces previous years were in abundance and by the end of the day featured at each end of the official chip count list, from a season four winner Jason Mercier, second in chips with 79,300, to Patrik Martensson, an 'old-timer' you might say, being a final table finisher from season two, who finished last night on 16,900.
Today, a field just as large will waltz the same path through eight levels of play and hope to be still standing, or more accurately still sitting, when tournament director Thomas Kremser calls it a day.
Today the field is expected to feature more of the heavy hitters, among them a bunch of Team PokerStars Pros seeking to emulate their team mates Chad Brown, Andre Akkari and Alexander Kravchenko yesterday. Daniel Negreanu is here, as is Gavin Griffin, Isabelle Mercier, ElkY, Dario Minieri, Player of the Year Luca Pagano, Raymond Rahme, Katja Thater and William Thorson.
Attention may also focus on two PokerStars ambassadors among today's runners. National Hockey League legend Matts Sundin switches ice for baize today and is sure to feature as is Spanish tennis maestro Sergei Bruguera. They will be accompanied by EPT regulars, details of which we'll have as play begins in Casino Barcelona.
It's time to shuffle up and deal.
