EPT Barcelona: Slow down

It's slow going at the moment here in Barcelona, where the short stacks are becoming progressively more scarce, but monstrous chip leaders are not necessarily emerging. There are plenty of players nursing comfortable towers amounting to something between 100,000 and 200,000, yet no one has yet managed to push on through the half million mark.

That's not to say they're not trying. PokerStars Shooting Star Sebastian Ruthenberg is still out on top, with about 235,000, drawing clear of the PokerStars king of qualifiers Stevie Chidwick, who has something like 165,000. His fellow qualifier, Jonas Klausen has about 160,000 and just lost a pretty big pot to Maria Maceiras, mucking to a raise of 32,000 on a board featuring two queens.

Also chipped up here are Jens Klaning, who has about 210,000, and Karsten Wagner, who has 175,000. Both are from Denmark, and this is a pretty Dane-heavy leaderboard. Sander Lylloff took last year's title back to Copenhagen, remember, so there must be something in the Catalan air that agrees with the red portion of Scandinavia.
