EPT Grand Final to host Champion of Champions tourney

ept-thumb-promo.jpgThere are regular champions, and there are EPT champions. Now, the EPT is set to crown its Champion of Champions.

The special invitational tournament is scheduled for the final day of the EPT Grand Final festival in Madrid. On the invitation list? Everybody who has won an EPT main event since 2004 (for a look at all their faces, check out the EPT's Facebook champions' gallery).

Since its kickoff in 2004, the EPT has awarded more than €175 million in prize money. The largest single payout to one player in Europe came in Season 5 when Team PokerStars Pro Pieter de Korver won €2,300,000 in the EPT Grand Final. Now, De Korver has a chance to prove himself against all the other champions from the first seven seasons of the EPT.

The number of EPT entries over the years has been staggering. Since 2004, the EPT has racked up more than 36,000 individual entries. More than a third of those players have come to the EPT by way of PokerStars satellites. Still, only a few can be champions, and only one can be the Season 7 Champion of Champions.

The first ever EPT Champion of Champions tournament is open to all previous EPT main event title-holders. The event (May 13 at the Casino Gran Madrid) will be taped for later broadcast.

The top four finishers will share €100,000 worth of EPT Season 8 passports. The prizes are as follows:

1st place - €50,000 EPT Season 8 Passport
2nd place - €25,000 EPT Season 8 Passport
3rd place - €15,000 EPT Season 8 Passport
4th place - €10,000 EPT Season 8 Passport

The PokerStars Blog will have live coverage of the event as part of its Grand Final festival reporting. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
