EPT9 London: Ville Wahlbeck is the EPT £10,300 8-Game Champion

Ville Wahlbeck consolidated his place as one of the best mixed game players in the world today by winning the EPT £10,300 8-Game Championship for £76,720. The Team PokerStars Pro beat a stacked field that included some of the biggest names in the game to to claim the largest chunk of a £215,600 prize pool.

Four places had been set to play but a six-handed deal was agreed upon that ultimately paid out Wahlbeck the largest chunk of the cash , not to mention another title. Dan Shak, Justin Bonomo, Richard Ashby, Elior Benjamin Sion and Luke Schwartz were the other players to make good on their £10,300 buy-in.

This win should will come as no surprise to connoisseurs of the more esoteric forms of poker: Wahlbeck is a beast that you don't want to tangle with outside of the familiar safety of the Hold'em arena. Don't believe us? Think that our PokerStars allegiances are colouring our opinions? Just take a look at the 2009 World Series of Poker. Wahlbeck performed a tour de force in the mixed and non-hold'em games that year.

The Finn finished 3rd in the $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud for $152,914, runner-up in the $10,000 World Championship No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw for $172,863, 6th in the $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. for $219,655, and scored a bracelet win in the $10,000 World Championship Mixed Events 8 Game for $492,384. A two further smaller cashes in other non-Hold'em events made it an incredible World Series.

Among the players that entered the event (but failed to make the money) were Elky, Vanessa Selbst, Daniel Negreanu, George Danzer, Scott Seiver, Justin Bonomo, Fabrice Soulier and Eugene Katchalov.
