EPT Malta: €2k gets even bigger; Zisimopoulos joins the Razz
The numbers have continued to flood into tonight's €2k event with the number of runners having increased to 288 so far with registration open until 8.55pm tonight. It's a veritable who's who of European poker with several representatives from 'over the pond'.
Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree has joined, as have former champions Nicolas Chouity, Ognyan Dimov, Mike McDonald, Joao Barbosa, Frederik Jensen, Kevin MacPhee and Ruben Visser. Also in are Jason Duval, Philipp Gruissem, Morten Mortensen, Grudi Grudev, Ole Schemion, Max Silver, Adrian Mateos, Jorryt van Hoof, John O'Shea, Simeon Naydenov, Vitaly Lunkin and Leo McClean. This really is the stackiest (sic) of stacked fields.
As mentioned before Ole Schemion is in this event but the German could soon be on his way out. He just had a nasty case of set-over-set against Mike McDonald. The Canadian held 8♦8♠ to Schemion's 2♥2♦ on a 6♠2♠8♣K♦9♦ board and the latter found himself crippled in the process. Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo has been knocked out, she had her pocket kings cracked by another player's ace-nine and an evening of poker has now become one of chillaxing.
In the EPT Razz Championships, there were a total of 23 players creating a prize pool of €32,010 with six spots getting paid a minimum of €2,210. The winner will take home a lovely trophy as well as €10,900. Georgios Zisimopoulos, who won IPT Malta yesterday for €142,205 is among those who entered this event.
Don't forget, there's still the €200 Deuces Wild at 9.15pm and the €500 + €500 Midnight HyperTurbo Bounty Win the Button 6-Handed tournament to come today. There will be updates later on about both these events as well as the goings on in the €2k, Razz Championships and the €500 Turbo, the last of which has just reached the final table.
