FPS Deauville: An international flavour
The numbers continue to climb here in Deauville with over 850 players now registered today. The tournament room is a considerable space but already almost every table is now in use. "Dealers, you may deal to stack number two," came an announcement over the loudspeaker as a steady stream of players continued to trickle into the room. With this field, the total prize pool is comfortably over €1 million and the lucky winner of this event will take home the biggest ever payout seen in the France Poker Series.
Yesterday had been mostly French-centric but today's field has much more of an international flavour. Representing Team PokerStars Pro, and challenging my ability of being able to tell twins apart, are the Belgian pair of Matthias and Christophe De Meulder. Fortunately they're sitting on opposite sides of the room, so at the moment Christophe is the 'near one' and Mattias the 'far one'. Fellow Team PokerStars Pro Julian Brecard has just arrived while EPT4 Prague winner Arnaud Mattern is also here.
Coming to France from slightly further away is the Swedish contingent including EPT6 Copenhagen winner Anton Wigg, EPT7 Copenhagen champion Michael Tureniec and Sofia Lovgren as well. The Italians are well represented by EPT5 Prague champion Salvatore Bonavena and Andrea Dato while there's a small British contingent consisting of Ludovic Geilich, Mat Frankland, Steve Watts, Nick Hicks and John Eames.
With the third level of the day only just starting now, there's still more than enough time for the field size to increase even further and for those unlucky enough to bust, there's always Day 1B of the €300 Deauville Cup which begins tonight at 9pm CET.
