EPT10 Barcelona: High Rollers in the money, Yong leads
The second day of the three-day €10,000+€300 High Roller keeps rolling along, with a big field full of big names building towards what promises to be an exciting finale tomorrow.
A few more last-minute additions helped bring the overall number of entries for the €10,000+€300 buy-in event to 180. That adds up to a €1,764,000 prize pool to be divided among the top 27 finishers, with a cool €390,700 due the winner.
It took a little over six hours for the money bubble to burst, with Igor Kurganov the unfortunate player falling in 28th place.
By then Richard Yong had pushed out ahead of the field having built a stack of nearly 850,000.
That positioned Yong well ahead of his nearest challenger, start-of-day-leader Ole Schemion sitting with just under 600,000.
Schemion thus cashes in the Main Event (123rd, €10,000), the Super High Roller (sixth, €159,200) and the High Roller here at EPT10 Barcelona. So, too, does David Benefield, who took 110th in the Main Event (€11,350) and fifth in the Super High Roller (€208,150), and who sits with an above average stack with 27 left in the High Roller.
Meanwhile, among the short stacks making the cash was Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué, who fist-pumped excitedly once the bubble burst.
Others still in contention include Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu (with above average chips) and Jonathan Duhamel (with an average stack). Anton Morgenstern who finished 20th in the WSOP Main Event this year is still fighting with a short stack. So is Syvain Loosli, who along with Benefield will be returning to Las Vegas in November for the ME final table.
Philipp Gruissem, Sam Chartier, Joao Barbosa, Tobias Reinkemeier, Dan Smith, Toby Lewis, Timothy Adams, Benny Spindler, Kevin Vandersmissen, and Bryn Kenney are also among the star-studded High Roller field that remains.
