EPT10 Barcelona: Meanwhile, the High Roller begins

While Day 4 of the European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event gets going over on the right-hand side of the spacious playing area here at the Casino Barcelona, a look to the left reveals players having assembled around a handful of tables for the start of the €10,000+€300 High Roller event.

Last year this event saw the Frenchman Laurent Polito grab the title after a heads-up chop with Alex Bilokur of Russia, with Polito earning €270,229 and Bilokur €295,451. Those two were the last remaining from a field comprised of 101 entries that included 10 players who bought in twice.

Many of the usual suspects, including some who played the Super High Roller here earlier in the week, are among the 50 or so players taking the initial first-level hands.

Team PokerStars Pros Eugene Katchalov and Daniel Negreanu have taken seats already. Others spotted thus far are Dan Smith, Steve O'Dwyer, Steven Silverman, Andrew Lichtenberger, Ludovic Lacay, Todd Terry, Scott Seiver, Shannon Shorr, and Sam Chartier.

Registration remains open through the start of tomorrow's Day 2 in this three-day event, with the option to re-enter one time also available to those who bust before that point.

We'll be keeping an eye on how the action unfolds on that side of the room during our travels today, sharing our observations here. Watch up top on the High Roller landing page as well for for live updates, chip counts, and more as the High Roller rolls along.

Also, be sure to tune into the EPTLive webcast starting at 2:30 p.m. local time as they will be presenting coverage from the High Roller as well.
