EPT11 Malta: The high rollers just keep on coming
Whilst the numbers in the Main Event are slowly dwindling - there are now 35 players left from the 56 who came back today - the numbers in the €10,000 High Roller have been rocketing upwards since play began at 1pm local time. Roughly 60 players were in their seats when this event started, but since then the number of entrants has swelled to over 150.
That means it's already eclipsed the total in the same event at EPT11 Deauville, which attracted 102 unique entrants and 26 re-buys. Oh yes this €10,000 event has a max spend of €20,000 euros as it's a single re-entry event. Two players have already exercised that option as Simon Boss and Andrey Andreev have busted and re-entered, whilst Igor Yaroshevskyy has busted but not taken a second bullet as yet. The high numbers are in part down to two live satellites which between them created 22 seats to this event, with Albert Daher, Paul Vas Nunes, Oliver Price, Remi Castaignon and Dominik Nitshce amongst those to get in for less than the full asking price.
Among the early pacesetters are Daniel Ghionoiu (87,000), Max Silver (83,000) and Joao Viera (64,000), who've all run their 50,000 starting stack up to something more substantial. New tables are opening up all the time, which means players are being moved about a fair bit, but the current 'table of death' contains: David Peters, Mike McDonald, Juha Helppi, Adrian Mateos, Mikita Badziakouski (who's at least awake) and Dan Smith who entered just before the break.
Steve O'Dwyer, Eugene Katchalov, Fabian Quoss and Max Silver also find themselves at a tough table but with the assorted talents of the players listed below then there aren't any soft tables to be found as all these players have taken a shot at this high roller:
These top guns will all be hoping to build a stack during the 10 levels of play on Day one. If they don't they of course have the option to re-enter and indeed that choice is open until the start of play on Day 2. It all means the numbers in this event will, like the blinds, continue to rise for now.
