EPT12 Barcelona: Jack Salter among early side event winners

The main poker room here at the Casino Barcelona being employed for the European Poker Tour Barcelona festival has 105 tables, and right now every single one of them is filled with players, all part of the ever-expanding Estrellas Main Event field.

Day 1B now already has more than 1,000 taking part. Late registration is open through Level 4, and of course there's still tomorrow's Day 1C to go, too, as we eye last year's total turnout of 2,560 and wonder if perhaps it will be exceeded.

Meanwhile other events are happening, too, with three more silver spade trophies being claimed in late night tourney action.

Jack Salter knows a lot about playing late into the night at the EPT, having been part of that memorable marathon that was the EPT10 Grand Final in Monaco where he took second to Antonio Buonanno for a big €765,000 payday.

The UK player did one better during last night's late one, winning Event #8, the €1K NLHE Turbo. Salter topped a field of 209 to earn the trophy and €44,910. Germany's Kasra Pour Khomany, who final-tabled the Neymar Jr Charity Tourney earlier in the week, finished runner-up to Salter, with Georges Yazbeck (sixth), Diogo Cardoso (seventh), and Kevin MacPhee (ninth) also making deep runs.

Alongside that one another turbo tournament played out, Event #10, the €2K NL Turbo 8-max event that saw 114 take part. Finland's Ville Mattila proved victorious, earning €55,640 after outlasting runner-up Peter Dragar of Hungary and third-place finisher and EPT11 Grand Final Main Event winner Adrian Mateos of Spain.

Finally the €500 NL Hyperturbo with 10-minute levels was the last event to fire on Wednesday -- Event #11 -- with 189 players joining in the fast-paced fun. Miguel Seoane Iglesias of Spain took the title and €20,300 first prize.

Also from the wee hours, Day 1B of the €300 Barcelona Cup (Event #7) played out, with Belgium's Raf De Weaver ending that flight with 404,000 to claim the overall chip lead through two of six starting flights. 2008 WSOP Main Event fifth-place finisher and bracelet holder Scott Montgomery ended Day 1B with the second-most chips of that flight.

From 141 Day 1A players, 21 made it through, and from 229 Day 1B players there were 35 surviving to Day 2. Both Day 1C and Day 1D of the Barcelona Cup will be played today, along with the €5K 8-game (Event #13), another €1K NL Hyperturbo later (Event #15), and two more super satellites (one to the Estrellas Main and another to the EPT Main).

Results of completed events and a schedule of what's to come can be found on the side events results page.
