EPT9 Sanremo: The silence of the High Rollers

ept-thumb-promo.jpgSomewhere in an alternate universe, poker tournaments get the attention they deserve. In this one, there can be bellowing and chaos about a player doubling a short stack in a €300 Hyper Turbo, while at the same time a field bulging with EPT champions, World Series bracelet winners and the biggest stars of the game can assemble to barely a raised eyebrow.

Starting today, with almost no fanfare, and almost entirely unnoticed in a tournament room abuzz with side events, was the €10,000 High Roller event of EPT Sanremo, and the field is as stacked as you would expect.

Team PokerStars Pro has provided its usual full complement: Vanessa Rousso is there and Luca Pagano has taken time out from tournament organisation to play. Eugene Katchalov has got off his bike to risk saddle soreness in a poker seat again, while Jason Mercier has finally been persuaded away from the open face Chinese poker sessions to play some more Texas hold 'em. He's pretty good at that, if you hadn't heard.

Jason Mercier: aces at the back, kings in the middle. Wrong game.

The field is also peppered with former EPT champions: Mike McDonald, Martin Finger, Roberto Romanello and Benny Spindler. Philipp Gruissem wouldn't miss a High Roller event for anything - and why would he, he usually takes them down. Mike Watson is here, having won a similar event in Cannes last week, and his fellow WSOP-E bracelet winner Roger Hairabedian is also continuing his spin-up.

Should you find the odd €10,000 in the bottom of the wardrobe, you do still have the time to enter. Registration does not close until after dinner, a good couple of hours away. Oh, and if you've got €20,000, that would be even better. Players are allowed a single reload if they bust.

Keep an eye on all the action via the dedicated High Roller tournament coverage page. We'll continue to drop in as it plays through.
