EPT9 Sanremo: From 66 to 24

ept-thumb-promo.jpg

It's the fifth day of EPT Sanremo and a familiar pattern is beginning to emerge. Each morning the sun blazes over the city, which looks as pert and sparkly as you imagine it does in the height of summer. Each day is framed with familiar sights and sounds. The residents of Sanremo with their daily shopping, the ambulance that whizzes by on its way to pick up what is likely the wounded pilot of a shattered scooter, the light of the sun on the sea.

There was one difference this morning. The commute to Casino Sanremo usually leaves you sweating and gasping for breath. But there's a new freshness in the air this afternoon, none of the humidity and the irritation of collar on neck, just the optimism that a new day brings. And for 66 players in the main event today that means a guaranteed cash finish. What more optimism could you want? The only question left open to them is 'how much?'

Sanremo: City of Flowers

Yesterday chip leader Inge Forsma looked surprised as he bagged-up the lead again, as if all of this was out of his control, something he couldn't quite fathom. This itself was surprising given that no one else was in any doubt as to how the Norwegian was doing it. He had chips and was finding himself to be a natural chip leader. The results spoke for themselves.

Whether he remains in his post at the close tonight will be determined this afternoon as we play down to 24 players. That would suggest a short day but it's never easy to predict such a thing in an event like this, where local fervour can inspire and overwhelm in equal measure, forging new heroes from unlikely corners. A min-cash today is worth €12,000 with the ultimate prize of €800,000 still two days away.
