Thumbnail image for ps_news_thn.jpgThe action at Estrellas Poker Tour Alicante was intense, and it was PokerStars online qualifier Alejandro Piñeiro who emerged as the winner, picking up €75,800 and a ticket to next season's EPT Barcelona.

British player Iqbal Ahmed, also a PokerStars qualifier, was runner-up for €48,200, with PokerStars Spanish player Alvaro 'Varosky' Santamaria coming third for €26,800.

The successful event was held at the Mediterraeno Casino and attracted 347 players who made for a €303,148 prize pool. Players came from 27 countries and 41 of them went home in the money.

The final day started with 12 players, and the final table went lightening quick, with only four levels needed to get down to heads-up play.

Piñeiro said: "I was feeling very comfortable until we came heads-up. I am not used to play heads-up and I felt Iqbal was superior. But when I saw the pocket aces I knew the tournament was mine."
