ESPT6 Barcelona: A walk through the poker chip buffet
We're back from dinner, a splendid buffet. It's a fine way to dine, especially if you happen to spend a lot of time in hotels and/or casinos like some of us do. It's also great if you happen to be at all selective about both what dishes you prefer and the proportions you desire.
On a related note, we spent the first little while after our evening repast tracing a similar kind of walk about, eyes wide open, looking for something in particular to satisfy us now that Day 1a of the Estrellas Main Event has resumed. We refer to chip stacks, of course -- the biggest ones -- in order to report the names of those sitting behind them.
We'll start with Danyl Amri of Malaysia, of whom we spoke just prior to dinner with regard to hands he had been playing at Anton Morgenstern's table. We noted his above average chips then, and right now he looks to have more than anyone in the room with about 165,000.
Nearest to Amri right now are Balazs Somodi of Hungary with about 160,000 and Denmark's Anders Winther who sits with about 155,000.
And the U.K.'s Niall Farrell has distinguished himself so far on Day 1a, too, having amassed about 150,000 during the day's pre-dinner period.
Comprising the chase pack at around 140,000 at present are Molina Bellver, Heinrich Pauker, and Javier Garcia Concha.
Behind them but close are Robert Rezner, Joan Febregas Capellas, and Carlos Mora Alvarez, all at around 130,000. And just under them hovering between 120,000-125,000 are Alexander Butko, Heorhii Doroshev, and Dmitrii Kopyl.
Those were the stacks which we most hungered to share as the latter part of Day 1a play approaches. We also spotted Morgenstern continuing to battle with average stack, Anatoly Filatov sitting on the short side, and Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo with about 75,000.
The schedule calls for three more 45-minute levels before play concludes for Day 1a. As Level 10 proceeds, 264 players are left from the 592 who began the day.
