ESPT6 Barcelona: Leading us into the night
The huge Day 1C field for the €1K Estrellas Barcelona Main Event is now decidedly less huge. The big board shows 1,565 entrants total for the day -- final confirmation still to come -- and those who made it to the dinner break have now already played down to less than 700 players with a couple more levels to go for the night.
A check of the room post-feeding reveals who was feeding the most -- chip-wise -- during the afternoon and early evening portions of play today.
A couple of players nearly even in stacks have distinguished themselves as probable leaders for the day at this juncture. Both Roberto Gerosa, the Swiss player with a few small cashes in Italy to his credit, and the German Jan Dentler were hovering near the 170,000-chip mark.
Not far behind them were both Patrick Leonard, the UK player fresh off a multiple-cash summer at the WSOP, and Andreas Rosen of the Czech Republic, both of whom have close to 160,000.
Also doing well are Idan Raviv of Israel and Andelo Bozic of Croatia, both of whom have right around 150,000. Raviv won a bracelet this summer at the WSOP in a $1,500 six-handed event, and final tabled another NLHE event where he finished seventh. Bozic, meanwhile, has been cashing on the Mega Poker Series in Europe this year, including winning an event in Vienna.
With play underway again, others are gaining quickly on the lead pack. We'll watch to see if the late night push produces anyone with a stack to rival Pablo Gordillo's best-so-far collection of 353,100 amassed yesterday.
