Eureka4 Vienna: Hundreds upon hundreds arrive for Day 1B

"Are we going to need more chairs?"

Tournament director Luca Vivaldi was concerned. He and the rest of the Eureka Poker Tour team were hurriedly moving around chairs and tables in time for the sheer onslaught of players who were already teeming outside the main tournament room with even more players downstairs.

Tournament director Luca Vivaldi

Today is Day 1B and as sure as night follows day, Day 1B of a poker event is always bigger than Day 1A. Discussions among many of the senior staff about the number of runners varied from conservative estimates of about 500 to some more optimistic who thought that 900 players would be a realistic target. If Eureka Prague's record is to be broken then 859 runners are needed.

The staff are not taking any chances, the high stakes cash game area is already being used for the tournament and part of the cash game area downstairs has also been annexed for the tournament, becoming tables 71-88. In terms of actual numbers, the final total will already be well above 1,000 with around 550 players already registered today. The question it seems, is no longer "Will it get close to Eureka Prague's numbers?" but "Could Vienna surpass Prague and become the biggest ever Eureka event?"

The tournament area is ready...

Last night PokerStars qualifier Gerald Karlic finished on top with 241,500 and that will be the target for everyone today. For a full list of chip counts from Day 1A please click here.
