Igor Saia takes first IPT title in Nova Gorica
Italian player Igor Saia defeated a field of 333 players in Nova Gorica last month to win the latest main event on the Italian Poker Tour.
The event, with a buy-in of €1,000+€100, generated a prize pool of €323,010 from which Saia took a first prize of €70,000 along with an IPT Trophy.
Saia bettered tough opposition heads-up in the shape of WSOP bracelet winner Davide Suriano. On the last hand of the tournament Suriano moved all in with ace-three off-suit which finished some way behind Sais's pocket sevens. Suriano collected €40,000 for second place.
It's a first major title for Saia, 30, who is a regular on the IPT. Known as "Smagics-84" online, Saia first cashed on the tour back in 2012. He had three cashes prior to this latest win. This latest result subsequently swelled his live tournament career earnings to more than $100,000.
