LAPT San Jose: The first lady

It pretty much goes without saying that Team PokerStars Pro Humberto Brenes is the Godfather of Costa Rican poker. Today, however, we have learned Costa Rica has a first lady of poker. A real first lady. As in, she was once the first lady of this country.

Doris Yankelwitz stands out in this crowd of eager, young poker toughs. She is refined, dignified, and everything you'd expect out of a distinguished lady. Well-dressed and decked out in a white suit, she sits alongside Maria Mayrinck and is showing her poker smarts.

As word on the street has it, Ms. Yankelwitz sat down in a single-table satellite last night against none other than Humberto Brenes himself and won her seat to today's event. Today, as we prepare to enter level five, the one-time wife of Costa Rican President Luis Alberto Monge, is still alive and looking to make a deep run.

Players have just sat down at the 150/300/25 level with 162 players remaining.
