LAPT7 Peru: Engel challenges Nishijima for lead as bubble nears
The eliminations continue at a rapid pace, bringing the money bubble ever closer. They've dipped down under 130 players at present, now just a couple of dozen more eliminations away from hitting the 103-player mark and the cash.
An early leader during one of the Day 1 flights, Rafael Porzecanski was among those knocked out early here on Day 2 after losing the last of his short stack to Sebastian Ruiz. Daniel Ospina likewise has hit the rail, as has Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez.
Nicolas Fierro is another Day 2 casualty. In his final hand Fierro took a small stack and [10s][10h] up against the K♥J♠ of Gilmar Gallegos of Peru, and after a king flopped the Chilean couldn't catch up, thus ending his tourney run shy of the money while the Peruvian edged close to 250,000.
The two members of Team PokerStars Pro Online are still with chips. Jorge Limon has held steady, hovering right around 75,000 for most of the day, while his teammate Celeste Orona has added a few to her stack to sit with 65,000 halfway through Level 14.
Not long ago Orona's table broke, putting her to the right of Ari Engel who has added considerably to his stack today to move up over 300,000. A hand in which Engel turned a flush and earned a couple of streets of big value was part of his move upward in the counts.
Not too long after that hand Orona and Engel got involved in a pot that saw them battle through a A♦4♠6♣4♦K♣ board, then "LadyMaCe86" check-call a river bet from "BodogAri." Engel turned over A♣Q♦, Orona A♥Q♣, and they split the pot.
Engel still sits with around 300,000, and is now challenging Thiago Nishijima for the chip lead.
