LAPT Panama: Leo Fernandez leads charge for final table
Can he do it? With a big chip lead and only 22 people to beat, can Argentinian Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez win the very first LAPT Panama?
The last time any Team Pro won a LAPT event, it was Fernandez's countryman Jose "Nacho" Barbero in Season 3. Barbero was the first Team Pro to win a LAPT title. He was also the first to win back-to-back LAPT championships. But since then, no Team Pro has hoisted the trophy.
Today Fernandez sits in the best position to reclaim LAPT gold for Team Pro. He enters Day 3 of play with a 190,000 chip lead on second place Joel Fermin. Fernandez can't win the title today. Play is only scheduled to get down to the final table of eight. Perhaps worse, he has third place Patrick Mahoney two to his left at the feature table. In any case, there is no one who would trade positions with him today.
Here are the top ten players as we begin.
Leo Fernandez (Argentina) 856000
Joel Fermin (Trinidad and Tobago) 666000
Patrick Mahoney (Mexico) 614000
