NAPT Los Angeles: Day 1B (the B stands for "bigger)
The people who have done this kind of tournament directing before have a mental barometer for how these tournaments work. Said barometers are now pointing toward "bigger," as in, bigger than yesterday, bigger than the last tournament, bigger than expected.
Oh, there are good reasons for it. Today is Saturday, so the local weekend warriors have time to come down. It's the second and last of the Day 1 flights, so it's everybody's last chance to get in or raise the money for the buy-in. Day 1A of NAPT Los Angeles saw 330 players. Tournament organizers are figuring to pull in more than 400 players on Day 1B.
Day 1A ended with Nicholas Grippo topping the leaderboard. His 235,100 came in just ahead of Thomas Middleton's 229,100. Team PokerStars Pros Jason Mercier, Chris Moneymaker, and Chad Brown also survived to Day 2.
Among some of the bigger names we're expecting today: 2010 November Niner Jason Senti, Daniel Negreanu, Darus Suharto, David Williams, ElkY, Anh Van Nguyen, Vanessa Rousso, Greg DeBora, Jose Barbero, Victor Ramdin, Joe Cada, Matt Stout, Kevin Saul, Joe Elpaaya, Bryn Kenney, Kevin McPhee, Jim Mehan, Faraz Jaka, and Eric Haber.
Play is schedule to begin at 1pm (figure a few minutes later). We'll have live coverage throughout the day and night. Day 1B players will be working through nine one-hour levels before breaking for the night.
