PCA 2012: The stalkers are everywhere

PCA-2010-thumbnail.jpgIt was nighttime when Ryan answered the phone in his room at Atlantis. The man on the other end of the line asked for the lady staying in the room. Ryan politely asked why the caller was asking for "Adrienne."

"He wanted me to meet him somewhere!" Adrienne explained.

See, Ryan is Adrienne's boyfriend, and Adrienne is Adrienne "talonchick" Rowsome, a member of Team Online and now one of the most-stalked players at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.

"It's about PokerStars," said the caller.

"Do you work for PokerStars?" Ryan asked incredulously.

"No, but it's about PokerStars."

Indeed, the caller wanted Rowsome to leave her room in the middle of the night--leave her boyfriend, no less--and meet for a secret rendezvous.

No matter how it may sound, it wasn't anything romantic. It was about money. Lots of it. More than $10,000 worth, in fact.

Much like the late night caller, this probably requires some explanation.

The people with the PokerStars VIP Club cooked up a little contest for the PCA that has turned members of Team Online into hunted prey. Every player here at the PCA who is at least a SilverStar in the VIP Club received a card like the one you see below. After that, the players track down the Team Online members and get their card punched.

Why? Well, stuff to start. The VIP Club booth will give away t-shirts to the first 300 people to get three unique stamps. After that, the VIP booth has $25, $50, and $100 bonuses to give away to people getting the correct number of stamps.

All of that is very nice, but it all pales in comparison to the grand prize. The first six players to get 15 stamps will get a seat in a six-person tournament, the winner of which will win an entry in the $10,000 six-max high roller. With that kind of prize on the line, the hunting around here has gotten pretty competitive. Last night after a training session, the members of Team Online were spotted by a man who thought he had hit the mother load: all of Team Online in one place! It took three people to explain to the Spanish-speaking man that the contest doesn't actually begin until Monday. Apparently, it's a common problem.

"I'm afraid to leave the room today. People want stamps and they will stop at nothing," said Kevin "WizardofAhhs" Thurman.

So, for right now, the members of Team Online are laying low (but, here's a secret: check out the lazy river). Come Monday, the hunt is officially on.

And hey, if you're on the island and playing the game, don't bother calling the Team Online players' rooms. You might just end up with Rowsome's boyfriend on the other end of the line. Speaking of which, here's a little video update from Rowsome's first day in paradise.
