PCA 2013: Douglas Ferreira busy before World Cup

Last August, Douglas Ferreira played an $11 tournament on PokerStars that changed his life.

Beating a field of more than 200 players, he earned a spot on Team Brazil and will be playing the ninth edition on the World Cup of Poker here at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. And he couldn't be more excited about it, because things are going really good for him so far in the trip.

It's Douglas' first time here at the Bahamas, and his enjoying it a lot so far. The day he arrived, he played a satellite for the main event and won his seat.

"My initial plan was to just play the WCP IX, but since I'm here I decided to give it a try in a qualifier. And I'm really happy to be playing in one of the biggest tournaments in the circuit," he said.

On Day 1A, Douglas had a really tough seat draw. He ended in a table that had Scott Seiver, Andy Frankenberger, Jonathan Aguiar and Ryan D'Angelo. He actually did pretty well.

"I finished the day with a little more than 52 big blinds, which is nice" said the Brazilian.

Some of those chips he got after busting Seiver, the winner of the $100,000 Super High Roller event.

Today things didn't get any easier. Douglas had Steve O'Dwyer and Griffin Berger on his initial table.

He remains confident.

"It's a dream come true to play in an event like this, and I'll do my best to go deep. And if I bust here, I'm going to totally focus on the World Cup, which I think we have a good chance of winning with a strong team and André Akkari as our captain."

At the moment of writing, Douglas Ferreira is still alive in the main event with 31,000 chips in his stack.
