PokerStars Festival Rozvadov: ElkY freeroll winner sets his sights on victory
The joy of freerolls. Not something pros would bat an eyelid over, but often a great way for amateurs to win free money to build up their bankroll. And although the prizepools might not always be worth writing home about, one pops up every so often that's worth braving the eye-watering fields to play.
Take when PokerStars announced a series of freerolls hosted by Team Pro's Marcin Horecki and ElkY, where the winner would win a trip Rozvadov and entry into the PokerStars Festival Main Event. The package worth €1600 in value would include five nights stay for two winners, entry into the €1100 Main, and €200 in spending money.
The winner of the ElkY freeroll was Mongolian amateur Damdin Enkhtuya, who took down a field of 9,212 players to win a trip to Rozvadov. Enkhtuya arrived a couple of days ago and jumped straight into Day 1A where he set his hopes on making a deep run despite having never played a game of live poker before.
Despite his enthusiasm, Enkhtuya failed to make it past the first break: "It was my first time playing live and I really enjoyed the whole experience. The field was tough and it was a big challenge for me to adapt to live play, but I enjoyed the sociable part of it," he said.
But that wasn't to be the end of the story. Determined to make the most of his remaining time in Rozvadov, Enkhtuya decided to jump into a satellite to take another stab at the Main Event. And this time lady luck was on his side; he once again took down a big field to win re-entry for Day 1D, where he'll have another shot at making it through to Day 2 on Sunday.
Stay tuned to see how Enkhtuya gets on, as well as his hero ElkY and other Team Online Pros over the coming days.
