PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams has record-setting opening day
'PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams' officially opened on Friday and exceeded all expectations as the Macau Poker Cup drew 334 players for it's HK $2,000 Deepstack Event. The tournament is the first side event in Asia to cross the 300-player mark in a single day.
"There's been a huge buzz about the PokerStars poker room moving to the City of Dreams." said Danny McDonagh, PokerStars Director of Live Poker Operations in the Asia-Pacific. "It's an amazing start for day 1 of what we hope to be many more days of record-breaking numbers."
The 2-day tournament will play down to 38 players who be in the money for a piece of the HK $583,164 prize pool. Those runners will return Saturday afternoon to compete for the first of nine MPC tournaments along with the top prize of HK $131,000.
Amongst the field was Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin who arrived in the afternoon for the first hand of the first cash game.
"The poker room opened at 3pm and then the game started at 3:01pm. Then before you knew it, a second and third game was running." explained Lin. The 2-time Red Dragon winner added, "Once the MPC tourney got going they had all 32 cash and tourney tables running at once. That's barely 6-hours into operation! How crazy is that?!"
PokerStars LIVE Macau has stated their intentions to break their own Asia-record of 635 unique players in the HKD $11,000 Red Dragon Main Event which takes place from April 24-28. They have confidently given the legendary tournament a HK $5,000,000 guarantee.
Players can qualify to the Red Dragon at 'PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams' where satellites are running daily until April 26.
