APPT9 Macau Day 1b: High stakes tequila streams

"High stakes drinking", online poker and livestreaming. Turns out they make for a surprisingly good combination as Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin and PokerStars Team Online Randy nanonoko Lew discovered last night.

They rolled up here today for Day 1b of the APPT9 Macau Main Event likely nursing hangovers after the APPT Macau Player's Party and a subsequent poker livestream on Twitch that went until the early hours of the morning.

"I had five tequila shots" came the admission from Lew, who recalled a night of "high stakes drinking" when he joined Lin as she fired up some sit n gos on PokerStars. The Twitch regular was helping Lin get more acquainted with the platform as she only started streaming for the first time this week. Clearly it's been working with Lin already gathering 1231 followers on the site.

Lin has joined a growing roster of Team PokerStars Pros with Twitch streams including the ever-popular Daniel Negreanu and the Godfather of poker streaming Jason Somerville.

Randy 'nanonoko' Lew at the poker table today

Both Lin and Lew are here today for the second flight of Day 1, but Lin already made an unexpected early exit after a cooler against Gab Yong Kim. They got all the money in after a raising war on a board of J♣Q♣7♠2♦ and Lin tabled the Q♥J♥ against Kim's set of sevens. She was chasing another jack or queen to stay alive but unfortunately for her the dealer flipped over the 5♠ on the river and the Team PokerStars Pro was eliminated.

Celina Lin looks like she has more fun on a livestream

We can report that Lew is still in contention, having chipped up to a little over starting stack and sitting on 24,500 in chips. Judging by this tweet he's optimistic about his chances here this week.

Lew already has experience making deep runs in Macau. The 2011 APPT Macau Main Event champion will be looking for another APPT title and we'll be following his progress to see if he can do it again.

We'll also be watching to see if Lew and Lin continue to stream while they're away from the live poker tables. If you're interested in checking out their channels you can find Lew at and Lin at

For now though it's back to the action here in the Main Event. You can follow along with the live reporting at the top of the APPT9 Macau page, and stick around more for feature stories here on the PokerStarsBlog.
