UKIPT Brighton: Fish and chips

Oooo, we do like to be beside the seaside, we do like to be beside the sea! Yes, that's right we're at the seaside surrounded by deckchairs, seagulls and sticks of teeth rotting rock as the UKIPT hits destination six; Brighton. Although we're currently enjoying a typical British summer with grey moody clouds and gusty winds making it near impossible to walk in an easterly direction down the promenade, we are due to see the sun making a guest appearance from tomorrow. Other celestial bodies showing their faces here at the Rendezvous Casino for the £1,000 main event include Team PokerStars Pros Jude Ainsworth and Julian Thew. Unfortunately for us, and fortunately for him, fellow Team PokerStars Pro JP Kelly is unable to make it here as he's currently wedged under a huge wedge of chips in some tournament or other called the World Series of Poker Main Event. You may have heard of it. It takes place in Las Vegas and awards its winner more dollars than you could shake a stick of rock at. Check the official PokerStars WSOP blog here.

Brighton beach is a popular tourist destination, unfortunately the grey clouds aren't doing it justice!

Another player showing up to razzle and dazzle is local boy James Dempsey who entered the cardroom here to a round of applause last night after his incredible showing at the WSOP this year. Dempsey scored one bracelet in the $1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em for $197,470 and came oh-so-close to bagging a second in the fiercely contested $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo Omaha 8 Championship Event when he finished runner-up to Sammy Farha. Although it's tough to come that close to joining Kelly and Praz Bansi as leading British bracelet holder the $301,789 pay-off should go some way to soothing that wound.

The action is scheduled to kick off at noon so keep with us for all the action as it happens. Satellites are currently running for UKIPT Edinburgh, which runs August 19-22. There is day 1b tomorrow so if you're after some fish and chips you still have time to buy in to this £1,000 event and with side events and cash games aplenty there's more than enough action for everyone. Come on down and pull up a (deck)chair.
