UKIPT Killarney: Day 2, levels 8&9 (blinds 400-800, ante 100)

ukiptthumb.JPG3.55pm: Brindley and the break
Roy Brindley just won a small pot with K♠K♦ on a 8♥Q♠4♠A♠5♦ board before the break. It wasn't exactly the best turn card for him but given the nut flush draw it wasn't the worst either. That's it for 15-minutes and we'll be back for levels 10&11. We've also had it confirmed that we're playing 7 levels today, not 8 (unless we get near the money...). The floor staff are racing off the green 25 chips. Simon Trumper had been collecting them for his table. --RD

Simon Trumper's wall of power is being crumbled in the colouring up phase

3.45pm: Hill climbing
Three players - Cat O'Neil, Mike Hill and Sean Molloy saw a flop of 3♣A♥7♦ there was around 7,000 in the pot. Molloy from the big blind checked, Cat O'Neil in middle position bet out for 5,500. Hill - who finished third in the UKIPT Manchester event - smooth called from the hi-jack. Molloy got out the way. The turn was the 9♣ and O'Neil checked to Hill. After a short dwell he fired out a bet of 8,800. O'Neil gave Hill a good stare down but eventually elected to fold. She is still up amongst the leaders and has over 50,000.--NW

3.30pm: Don't mess with Robinson
Owen Robinson open raised to 2,100 from middle position and was three-bet by Gary Clarke to 5,500. Robinson wasted little time in four-betting to 17,100. Clarke crumbled and Robinson raked in the chips. He's showing why he made the final table at the UKIPT Nottingham. -- RD

3.20pm: High heart pressure
To say Vinny Gavin has been active early on is an understatement. I joined the action with the board reading 8♠6♥4♥5♥9♥,there was around 10,000 in the pot and an all-in bet of 12,275 infront of Darren Millar. Overnight chip leader Vinny Gavin, who had regained some ground and had a stack of 65,000 in front of him was contemplating making the call. After a minute or so he quietly announced call. Millar rolled over K♥J♦, Gavin let out an expletive and flashed the Q♥ as he mucked. --NW

3.15pm: Gavin grinding back
Overnight chipleader Vinny Gavin had lost a chunk early doors today but has been busy grinding back. He just limp-raised Cormac O'Dea's 2,500 raise to 6,175 and got a fold. If anyone had taken a second to look at O'Dea's face it would have been obvious he was passing despite his two-minute think up. He couldn't have looked less enthuiastic about the limp-raise had someone stuck hot needles into his eyes. --RD

3.10pm: State of play
Despite our prediction that the opening level wouldn't see carnage, we lost 26 players in the opening hour. I16 players remain, average stack is 32,715. --NW

3pm: Check-raise to victory!
James Creighton had checked a pretty looking Q♦3♠J♠ flop over to Jim O'Neill who bet 3,100 before dropping the check-raise bomb (yes, he obviously had to check first but we digress). Creighton made it 10,700 and O'Neill passed with a grimace. --RD

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 400-800, ANTE 100

2.55pm: Not all trappers wear fur hats
From under the gun+1 Liam O'Brien made it 1400 to go, two seats down Aleksander Viacheslavovich bumped it up to 2900 total. It folded round to O'Brien who made the call. The flop came down 9♣2♥4♥. O'Brien checked and Viacheslavovich bet 6,000 leaving a similar amount back. O'Brien moved all-in and Viacheslavovich made a swift call:

Viacheslavovich: K♠K♦
O'Brien: A♦A♥

Turn: 5♣
River: 6♥

O'Brien had Viacheslavovich covered. --NW

2.45pm: Gavin loses some
Overnight chip leader Vinny Gavin has lost some chips and is now down to 42,000. We didn't catch the hand itself but the importany part - the chips being pushed in the direction of Tommy Watson - was more than enough to note. The current chip leader appears to be Sean Molloy who has increased his stack to around 90,000. --NW

2.35pm: Curtis coolered
It's that action table again. Clint Curtis must have been happy getting it all-in with kings but Barry McPhillips' pocket aces suddenly soured that relationship in a chunky 40,000 pot. The board gave McPhillips a slight sweat on the turn with 5♥T♣J♦9♣ but a pairing 9♦ wasn't wnough for Curtis to catch up who's now looking fairly short. -- RD

2.25pm: Baker cooked
Another early casualty is Lorraine Baker. Under the gun Richard Upton made it 1800 to go, Baker, next to act was the only caller. The dealer spread a flop of 6♣5♦8♠. Upton kept control of the pot by betting 3,000. Baker responded by raising to 6,500 in total. After a minute or so in the tank, Upton, who covered Baker, moved all-in. Baker sat and thought for a while before eventually deciding to commit her last 10,000 (her all-in on the flop was for 16,075). On their backs:

Baker: 7♠7♣
Upton: Q♣Q♥

Turn: 8♣
River: Q♦

Upton rivered a full house to eliminate Baker. --NW

2.15pm: Early knockouts
There's been a flurry of KO's in this first blind level including our first casualty from action table number nine in the shape of Clint Curtis - oh no, it turns out he's not and has in fact doubled up. Other notables that have actually been seen slinking out of the cardroom include Jason Herbert, a player that made the money at the UKIPT Coventry and has a propensity to wear those Marmite Ed Hardy hoodies (you know, you either love them or hate them - I know which side I fall on...). -- RD

2.15pm: Short day for Siemak
First man out today was Siemak Przemyslaw, he only had 3,700 at the start of the day though. He'll be free to play the €500 + €50 side event that starts at 7pm tonight. --NW

2.10pm: Action table
Whilst not much has happened on table nine yet, it's going to be one we'll be keeping a close eye on as there are a lot of chips on that table. Sharing the table are Cat O'Neil (64,650), Andrew Laurie (51,900) and Sean Molloy (77,350). All three were in the top ten in the overnight chip counts. --NW
