WSOP Main Event: Day 2A Team PokerStars Pro roundup

wsop2009_thn.gifIf you think of it the right way, anybody in this room who plays on PokerStars and gets their seat through PokerStars is a member of Team PokerStars. We're all one big happy family, one Team, one united effort aimed at winning a bracelet. Or something like that.

There are, however, the standard bearers, those who march at the head of the lines and hold high the PokerStars flag. They are, as their name suggest, professionals. They are Team PokerStars Pro.

We started today with several members of the Team. As we near the last level of the night we only have a few for whom we can still report chip counts.

We shall not speak of success, however, until we take a moment to tip a 40 in the memory of the Team PokerStars Pros we will not see again in this year's WSOP. Those people include Steve Paul-Ambrose, John Duthie, Jason Mercier, Alexander Kravchenko, Johannes Strassmann, Katja Thater, and Sandra Naujoks. Try not to think of it as being eliminated from the WSOP, so much as taking an eleven and half month dinner break.

With that out of the way, now on to the good news.

Five members of Team PokerStars Pro remain in the Day 2A field. They include the two men we wrote about just a little while ago, Grant Levy and Luca Pagano. With 2.5 hours left to go in the evening, both of their stacks were sitting around the 60,000 mark.

Elsewhere Team PokerStars Pro Greg Raymer has managed to prosper at the feature table alongside Friend of PokerStars Jason Alexander. Raymer started the day on 43,000 chips and has managed to work his way up to the 70,000 range,

Team PokerStars Spain Pro Juan Manuel Pastor is sitting in a spotlight of his own. He recently was moved alongside poker legend Amarillo Slim. Pastor is holding about 43,000 at this hour.

Finally, there is 2007 3rd place Main Event finisher Ray Rahme. The first man from Africa to ever make the WSOP final table looks very good to make Day 3 of the 2009 event. We put him on 80,000, a very reasonable stack to take to the combined field on Friday.

THE 'TOOK WAY TOO LONG TO WORK OUT FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH' STATISTIC OF THE HOUR

The combined calorie count of the free bags of jerky given out to players: 324,000. At 4mph that would take roughly 37 and a half days to walk off*.
