WSOP Main Event Day 1C: Hall of Famer?

wsop2010_thn.jpgTom McEvoy is a lot of things to poker. He's the 1983 World Series of Poker Champion. He was the first satellite qualifier to win a bracelet. He is among the longest-serving members of Team PokerStars Pro. He is the author and co-author of a number of books. He has four WSOP bracelets and 37 cashes. Last year, he won the WSOP Champions Invitational. He is not, however, a member of of the Poker Hall of Fame.

Hall of Fame entry is not something many people receive. Fewer than 40 people have made the cut since 1979.

Last year, McEvoy had a shot at the Hall of Fame, but instead saw the also-very-deserving Mike Sexton take the spot. Back then, McEvoy was unapologetic about his desire to receive the honor.

He said, "For me, if I get in the Poker Hall of Fame this year it would be the best moment of my career - better than winning the Main Event, the three other bracelets, even the Champions Invitational," he said.

This year, Hall of Fame voting is again open to the public. Once again, McEvoy is a candidate for entry. Once again, he'd be happy with your vote.

According to the rules of the Hall of Fame, players are only eligible if they meet the following requirements.

  • A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
  • Played for high stakes
  • Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
  • Stood the test of time
  • Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.
  • Sounds a bit like McEvoy, no?

To lend McEVoy your support, head on over to to the Poker Hall of Fame voting page.
