WSOP Main Event Day 3: No time for hangovers

wsop2010_thn.jpgIt's the morning after the night before in Las Vegas, and after spending two hours apiece tangling, ripping, stretching, fighting to remove a PokerStars party wristband, we're back at the Rio for day three of the World Series of Poker Main Event.

You can take a look back at last night's Snoop-oriented festivities in our party post (tell us what happened, will you; we're a little hazy) but from now until late Saturday night, it's all about fighting through the second-largest poker field ever assembled and battling to a final table.

Day three will begin with 2,557 players, which is 35 percent of the original field. The first target is to survive four levels of play today, then to press on into the money. Only 747 players will leave in profit and Mr or Mrs 2,557 through Mr or Mrs 748 leave with nothing. It's a tough game.

A packed tournament field in the World Series

Today we'll introduce you to Eric Assouline, the PokerStars qualifier who emerged at the very summit of the chip counts on day two and so is the official chip leader of the World Series. There are plenty of other PokerStars players still involved too, so please do get in touch at blog@pokerstars.eu and tell us who we should be writing about.

There are a good number of Team PokerStars Pros still in the hunt too, and we'll catch up with many more of them before the day is done.

The players are still split across the Amazon and the Pavilion Rooms at the Rio, but the complete remaining field plays together for the first time today. They may even all squeeze into the same space at some point.

We re-convene at the mid-point of level nine, with blinds at 500-1,000 (50 ante). The idea is to play through four levels, so we'll be done at around 11pm at the mid-point of level 13.
