WSOP 2012: Keeping it under one roof
As reported earlier this summer on the PokerStars Blog, Team Pro Vanessa Rousso recently bought her dream home in Las Vegas, a vast sprawling pad complete with courts for volleyball, basketball and tennis, as well as a pool to dip your feet in, all of which are set in some land at the back of the house which Rousso calls "Utah".
I'm just kidding about the Utah, it's bigger than that. But what the video tour showed was the perfect environment for a World Series stay; somewhere in which to relax, find peace and tranquillity after the rigours of a day of World Series poker, and get away from the pressures of the poker world.
Rousso, however, figured there was one thing missing for this ideal summer set up (she has everything else, including a suit of armour), so invited some friends to come stay with her while they played the Series. So fellow Team Pros Vanessa Selbst and Liv Boeree packed bags and were on the next plane, as was their friend Maria Ho, for a summer of slumming it in luxury accommodation.
After losing a prop bet, Rousso was forced to dress as a cockroach (Who knew cockroach costumes existed?)
Even though they may have started the summer full of optimism, it would be hard to predict just how well the summer would go for the guests of Chateaux Rousso.
Both Ho and Boeree have cashed in events this year, while Selbst, who already has career winnings in excess of $5.3 million, won her second bracelet, this one in 10-Game, and earned more than $446,000 in prize money from four cashes.
In all it's been a pretty good summer, which right now shows no sign of ending.
All three have reached he money in the Main Event, guaranteed (at the time of writing) $24,808. But the three of them will be eyeing richer prizes as play stretches into the weekend.
Ho will be hoping to top her 38th place finish in this event back in 2007, good for $237,865(that'll mean reaching the top 27 on Monday), while Boeree is scoring her first main event cash. As for Selbst, who right now is among the leaders with more than 1,200,000 chips, she is ten places away from topping her previous best in the event, a 476th place in 2010.
Selbst should beat that (she's currently in the top ten), and buoyed by what can only be something in the water back at Rousso's place, Boeree and Ho should be bagging up chips once more tonight.
Then, well who knows. It'll be all over the Chateaux Boeree for the winter.
