DONE IN A DAY
After several weeks of special edition Sunday Millions, including Progressive Knock-Out formats and Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) and Summer Series events, this week things went back to basics.
The Milly was a $109 regular MTT with up to three re-entries allowed, an option many players took. When registration came to a close there were 11,545 total entries (8,311 unique, 3,234 re-entries) creating a $1,154,000 prize pool.
A little over 2,000 players would make the money, with $117,425 reserved for the eventual champ. Whereas in recent versions the Sunday Million has been played over two or even three days, it was a one-day affair this time around.
It would ultimately take 14 hours and 36 minutes to find a champion, but who was it?
HUNGARY’S “Wazaahun” WINS IT
“Wazaahun” already had a Winter Series title in a Sunday Major under his belt, having won the $109 Sunday Kick-off in 2018 for $25,813, and several other big scores including a third-place finish in a SCOOP event last year for $42,451.
Until Sunday, that stood as the Hungarian’s biggest score. He almost trebled that with his Sunday Million victory, banking $117,425 with no deals made.
“oardnasol” from Romania finished second for $85,209, whilst “mitch85” earned $61,836 for third place, both earning by far their biggest scores ever.
ANOTHER WEEK, ANOTHER DEEP RUN FOR “Graftekkel”
For the past three weeks, we’ve seen one consistent and not-at-all surprising element across all the Sunday Millions:
Jans “Graftekkel” Arends has gone very deep.
Arends, who hails from the Netherlands but resides in Austria, is a long-time high roller crusher who has won millions online. But while he has plenty of titles to his name, he’s yet to clinch a Sunday Million trophy.
If he keeps up his recent form in this event, though, it’ll only be a matter of time. Here’s a look at his results, and keep in mind, each event had between 10,000 and 20,000 runners:
June 21 – 26th for $3,451
June 14 – 282nd for $445
June 7 – 20th for $2,536 + $1,123 in bounties
We spoke to Arends about his career and future goals back in December 2019. Check out that interview here.
DEEP RUN FOR SPRAGGY
Of all the red spades in the event, Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg was the sole PokerStars Ambassador to cash this week’s Sunday Million.
He was streaming his whole run on his Twitch channel, before things came to an end in 376th for $325.
