With no big PokerStars series currently running, the prestigious Sunday Million has resumed its rightful spot at the top of the weekly schedule. Here are five things you might have missed from the latest edition.

AUGUST 9-10

  • All the details
  • Denmark’s “Kakalala” conquers
  • Brazil’s “Gobenni” finishes second
  • Who cashed from Team PokerStars?
  • Watch the final table (with hole cards)

All the details

The latest $109 edition kicked off on August 9 at the usual time of 7 pm CET (1 pm ET) and when registration came to an end a few hours later there were 10,735 total entries recorded. With three re-entries available to each player, that figure broke down to 7,607 unique entries and 3,128 re-entries.

Only 1,925 players would make the money, so spare a thought for Canada’s “GRAYLO” who burst this week’s bubble.

The prize pool was set with a massive $111,125 up top for the eventual champ.

It would take five hours and 31 minutes of play on Monday’s Day 2 before we found out who that would be.

Denmark’s “Kakalala” conquers

The one player who outlasted 10,734 other entries to end with all the chips was Denmark’s “Kakalala”, a grinder who is no stranger to big final tables with large prizes.

While $111,125 is a massive score, it’s only “Kakalala”s second-largest of their career. They reached the final table of the $5,200 World Championship of Online Poker Main Event back in 2012, ultimately finishing in seventh place for $182,500.

“Kakalala” also has a win in the $1,050 Super Tuesday and multiple Spring Championship of Online Poker final tables on their resume.

With this Sunday Million victory, “Kakalala” now has $2.14M in career winnings, according to Pocket Fives.

Brazil’s “Gobenni” finishes second

Just missing out on the Sunday Million title was Brazil’s “Gobenni”, but we’re sure the $80,303 runner-up prize is a nice consolation.

“Gobenni”s previous biggest score was $6,252, coming from a victory in the $22 Mini Sunday Supersonic in October 2019.

This score will no doubt be a huge bankroll booster for “Gobenni”, who now has $440K in online winnings, according to Pocket Fives.

Who cashed from Team PokerStars?

While Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg, Fintan “easywithaces” Hand, Arlie “Prince Pablo” Shaban, Ramon Colillas, and Tom “Majinboob” Hayward all took a shot in this week’s Milly, only two of them would reach the cash.

Hayward managed to finish in 1,642nd for $205, but as he was in for two bullets, that meant a small loss on the tournament.

Fintan went a bit deeper, finishing in 700th place for $273 on his first bullet.
