Most people have that friend noting a Facebook or Twitter update “Just finished ten mile run, felt a slow and may go another ten” or “Reached my 100th mountain summit of over 10,000 feet!”. But, how did they get in such physical shape when running to the chip cage from the table sounds like a chore?

Lots of practice.

Watching these fields of two thousand plus players putting up a couple hundred dollars (or more) per tournament during the Sunday Majors is the result of that practice from the micro-stakes or even the multiple satellites offered to give lower stakes players a taste of the big bucks. The Sunday Warm-Up this week featured players who could have already made the Twitter update “made TCOOP and WCOOP final tables” (Kaggis) and “made Sunday Warm-Up final table” (yarik1903) previously. But, only yarik1903 was able to claim the “I WON THE SUNDAY WARM-UP” tweet this week earning $73,406.91 after defeating Kaggis heads-up.

Read-on for yarik1903’s road to victory.

After the eighth hourly break the remaining 23 players would take just 30 minutes to trim the field down to 14. WCOOP champ z_balata (named after a golf ball) was looking to capture another Major title but finished among that group in 18th place ($1,719.02).

The initial fast clipping would taper off after Platsch73’s leave in 14th place ($2,369.46) as the final table bubble loomed.

Then, with ten minutes left a one-two punch of eliminations would turn the spotlights on. First, with the blinds up to 40K/80K ante 8K PokerSavage, a former Sunday Warm-Up winner from 2013, would try to sneak Q♥ J♥ past the pocket tens 10♣ 10♦ of beastii. Despite add a few outs on the flop, Kâ™  A♦ 5♥ 2â™  9♦ the champ would not get a shot at title number two earning $3,019.90 in 11th place. On the opposite table Popiedejopie would be all-in preflop holding pocket deuces 2♥ 2♦ against Kaggis’ Jâ™  A♥ . This time the pocket pair did not hold K♦ 10♣ 6♦ J♦ Qâ™  starting up the final table below:

Seat 1: yarik1903 (4932402 in chips)
Seat 2: tinuz79 (843660 in chips)
Seat 3: Kaggis (3298291 in chips)
Seat 4: BundAA (5167432 in chips)
Seat 5: Maclinic (1361640 in chips)
Seat 6: beastii (3315577 in chips)
Seat 7: holly17 (1783727 in chips)
Seat 8: 1Rug (1235661 in chips)
Seat 9: Faroeman77 (1291610 in chips)

Despite beastii’s near double-up before the final table, that healthy stack would dwindle to just over five BBs 15 minutes after the start. Beastii would find 6♥ A♣ sitting UTG and decided to shove those remaining chips as similarly shortstacked 1Rug found pocket kings K♥ Kâ™  . 1Rug’s kings found no resistance on the Q♣ 10♣ 7♦ 7♣ 2♥ board as beastii took home $3,949.10 in ninth place.

A few minutes later with a bump in the blinds to 65K/130K ante 13K Kaggis would min-raise from middle position as Maclinic shoved for under a million holding pocket eights 8♣ 8â™  . Kaggis’ pocket nines 9♦ 9♣ made the call and needed no assistance on the 2â™  A♦ 5â™  10♥ 10♦ board to send Maclinic away in eighth place ($6,736.70).

Six hands later 1Rug would lead off with a shove for 1.3 million chips. Everyone folded to holly17 who called in the big blind holding pocket sevens 7â™  7♦ . 1Rug’s big slick Kâ™  A♦ looked to the 4â™  2â™  10♦ J♥ 4♣ board for help, but instead found seventh place cash ($11,382.70).

Closer to the ninth hourly break Kaggis was back again to ask another player to kindly leave the stage. With the blinds moving up to 80K/160K ante 16K tinuz79 would throw 1.02 million all-in as Kaggis made the call from the small blind with pocket queens Q♣ Qâ™  . Unlucky timing for tinuz79’s jacks J♦ J♣ as the eight-high 6â™  4â™  2♣ 5♣ 8â™  board sent tinuz79 home in sixth place ($16,028.70).

Thus far, chip leader yarik1903 kept a low profile picking spots to retain the lead heading into the ninth hourly break. Shortly after the blinds increased to 100K/200K ante 20K BundAA would try to snag the blinds off yarik1903 with a 2.7 million chip shove holding J♥ K♦ from the cutoff seat. The chip leader was happy to call with aces A♣ A♠ . Despite the king in the door K♣ 8♥ 3♦ 9♦ 7♠ BundAA was out the door in fifth place ($20,674.70). BundAA was in position to take down the Sunday Warm-Up title back in May, falling short to Dr_Drey15 while earning $59K.

Yarik1903 is acting like the owner of this final table store, collecting the funds without much interaction with the employees while Kaggis is the supervisor handing out pink slips and boxes. Just seven hands later all folded to Kaggis in the small blind who immediately shoved for 6.5 million chips. Holly17 smelled a power play and made the call for 1.3 million holding Jâ™  10â™  . The suited connector was ahead of the bullying micromanager’s 4♦ 8♦ . Until the board dropped three diamonds 6♥ 10♦ 5♣ Q♦ K♦ giving holly17 a severance package worth $27,179.10 in fourth place.

One hand before the ninth hourly break, Kaggis was looking to make further reductions as Faroeman77 and Kaggis looked at the 10♦ 8♦ J♦ flop with equal excitement. Kaggis would lead out for 568K as Faroeman77 shoved for 3.62 million. With the flopped straight Q♥ 9â™  Kaggis made the call having to dodge tens and jacks 10♣ Jâ™  . No boat for Faroeman77 on the 6♣ turn nor 8â™  river meant the end of Faroeman77’s run in third place ($39,491.00).

Thanks to that 8.2 million chip pot with blinds at 100K/200K ante 20K Kaggis would pull closer to yarik1903, starting with a 9.7 million to 13.4 million chip deficit. The chat box stayed eerily quiet from chop talks despite the extra five minutes to think about it.

Plenty of BBs between the two players could have meant a lengthy heads-up battle. And indeed 13 minutes into the fight for the title, Kaggis’ switch to passiveness and letting yarik1903 take a 3.5 million chip river stab at a pot would give Kaggis a temporary chip lead. It would not last long as two hands later Kaggis may have shifted gears little too quickly and shoved middle pair and a straight draw into yarik1903’s flopped straight handing yarik1903 a 17.5 million to 5.6 million lead.

Five minutes later with the blinds up to 125K/250K ante 25K Kaggis would shove Q♥ J♦ over the top of a limp by yarik1903. The ruse worked as yarik1903 called with the better kicker Q♦ A♦ . The eight-high 7♥ 5â™  8♦ 6♣ 3♥ board sent $73,406.91 to yarik1903 as this week’s Sunday Warm-Up champion!
