4:40pm: Ten-minute break

4:30pm: Mile mauled on the river

Mile Krstanoski is the latest casualty with under 70 players now remaining in the ANZPT Perth Main Event.

Krstanoski was all in holding two pair with five-seven on a board of 7-3-2-5. Tu Lee was his opponent with a bare A-K but managed to spike a four on the river to make an unlikely straight and eliminate Krstanoski.

4:20pm: Boxell busts

We’ve just lost Australian Poker Hall of Famer Leo Boxell from the ANZPT Perth Main Event. After winning the Terminator event at 4:30am last night, Boxell managed to get a few hours sleep between the event and the 7am wakeup call from the hotel construction workers. But he’d be forgiven for feeling a little tired on the felt today.

Another trophy in the cabinet for Leo Boxell in last night’s Terminator event

Boxell was working with a short stack for most of the day, and with wife Bev sitting on the rail as always, Boxell fought hard to find a double up to stay alive. Unfortunately his run has come to an end. According to the table, Boxell opened from early position to 6,000 and was faced with a three-bet to 15,000 from Daniel Loobas. Boxell called and they saw a flop of 6♠ J♣ 9♥ . Boxell checked, Loobas moved all in and Boxell called off his last chips with 5♥ 5♠ , perhaps hoping his opponent had two overcards. He was correct, in a way, as Loobas did have two overcards, but unfortunately they matched as he showed A♣ A♦ .

The turn was the K♦ and river the 7♠ to see Boxell and Bev head back to the hotel for an afternoon nap.

4:10pm: Guerin straightens Connolly

Didier Guerin had dropped a few chips, but he’s now back in the chip lead after eliminating Patrick Connolly in a hand that Guerin confessed that he “played badly”.

Connolly opened to 6,000 and Guerin called to take a flop of 7♠ 9♣ 5♣ . Connolly bet 16,000 and Guerin called to see the 8♠ appear on the turn. Connolly announced himself all in but Guerin beat him into the pot with a call holding J♠ 10♣ for a turned straight. Connolly sighed and opened J♥ J♣ .

The river was the 4♦ to see Connolly depart and Guerin climb back to 280,000.

3:55pm: Johnson jacked

The women have been going great guns in this tournament so far with plenty still in contention, but one of them isn’t Lorinda Johnson. She was just eliminated from the ANZPT Perth Main Event in unfortunate fashion.

Johnson’s last chips were in preflop with K♥ K♦ against Patrick Connolly J♦ Jâ™  . Johnson was all set for a double up until the board was spread 3â™  10♦ 9♦ J♥ 4â™  . Connolly spiked a set to take it down to move up to 88,000 as Johnson departed the poker room.

3:50pm: Breadsell lands a double

Ben Breadsell has just landed a double up with his pocket aces holding against the pocket jacks of Mario Zulj. The board ran out 5-6-7-T-A to see the Aussie Millions gold ring winner climb up to 65,000.

3:40pm: Level up, blinds 1,000-2,000, ante 300

3:30pm: Johnson joins the leaders

It’s just been announced by the floor staff here at Burswood that Mark Johnson is now up among the chip leaders after winning a recent pot. Johnson is up to 250,000 to narrowly trail Didier Guerin.

3:20pm: Lim runs into rockets

Just as it appeared that Aaron Lim was about to get himself back into contention, his tournament has come to an end.

Lim shoved with pocket fives but he ran into Paul Sharbanee’s pocket aces. The board ran out T-2-3-K-9 to see Lim eliminated.

3:00pm: Tony Tartaglia update

“I have 115,000 now,” said Tony Tartaglia as he took a stroll around the poker room. “I keep drinking so all the cards look like aces so I just keep shipping!”

It’s a “unique” world

2:50pm: Lim hangs tough

Paul Sharbanee opened to 3,500 from under the gun, and found one call, before play folded to Aaron Lim in the small blind. Lim declared himself all in for another 8,600 on top. Sharbanee decided to fold but the third player sighed and tossed out calling chips with A♣ Q♦ . Lim tabled a dominant A♦ K♦ .

The board ran out 7♣ J♠ J♥ A♠ 8♠ to see Lim more than double up. Lim has been battling with a short stack for most of the tournament so far, but now has 30,000 to work with and a little breathing room.

2:40pm: Play resumes

The players are back with 90 remaining in contention for the ANZPT Perth Main Event title. So we’ve lost 46 within the first two hours of play. Didier Guerin is our chip leader with over 280,000 chips.
