Home / Uncategorized / ANZPT6 Sydney: The final table awaits

The stage has been set for a thrilling finale as the ANZPT Sydney Main Event reaches a conclusion this afternoon. Three days ago 458 players walked into The Star with dreams of becoming Australia’s next poker champion, and today, just one of our remaining nine will achieve that very feat.

Entering the final table it’s Jazz Mathers who holds a healthy chip lead, and it’s a position that Mathers has enjoyed for most of this tournament.

After being down to just a few thousand in chips on day one, Mathers kick-started his tournament with a big call down with ace-high against his old nemesis Billy “The Croc” Argyros. From there, Mathers steamrolled his way to the lead and never looked back.

Mathers will be keen to improve on his ninth place from the APPT Melbourne event, but he won’t have it easy with a few experienced players lurking on this final table.

Peco Stojanovski has an APPT Sydney final table to his credit, while our lone international player, Steven Zhou, has some strong results in both Australia and Macau. Milan Gurung has a strong record over a number of years while Oliver “The Blowfly” Gill is an online gun who will be buzzing about the table looking for his first major live tournament win.

Here’s how they will line up this afternoon:

Seat 1: Peco Stojanovski – 1,167,000
Seat 2: Nathan Sawyers – 1,318,000
Seat 3: Joshua Redhouse – 994,000
Seat 4: Milan Gurung – 283,000
Seat 5: Jazz Mathers – 1,837,000
Seat 6: Steven Zhou – 1,117,000
Seat 7: Rory Young – 1,124,000
Seat 8: Oliver Gill – 536,000
Seat 9: Brent Taunton – 637,000

Three years ago Michael Kanaan steam-rolled the final table to win this title in under four hours. We were at the pub having a parma by 6:30pm. However the last two years have produced long final days when play started with at least two tables remaining. What will we have in store for us today?
