After reporting on the players this week at ANZPT Perth, it was good to have the chance to share a beer and a laugh with some of them at The Merrywell Restaurant and Bar last night.
The ANZPT Perth Player’s Party played host to a lot of notable names all packing the Merrywell’s outdoor area and enjoying a deep bar tab and some great food. It was pints and poker talk all round as players got a moment to unwind between the grind.
A mixture of live series regulars and online grinders came together to kick back and enjoy a chat among colleagues and rivals before many would be back for Day 2.
Anthony ‘leggieblufs1’ Legg was enjoying a drink when Perry ‘pezzamichael’ Michael began some friendly needling over their recent battles in the ANZPT satellites on PokerStars.
“I’ll get to heads up with a 9:1 chip lead against him and he’ll just run pure and crush me” Legg explained.
With a sixth place finish in last month’s Aussie Millions Main Event for $235,000, Legg laughed it off. Maybe at the next tour stop he’ll buy straight in to avoid further punishment in satellites.
Online crusher Stevan ‘random_chu’ Chew was busy at the bar talking about a strategy article he’s been meaning to write for a while now. Currently ranked third in Australia on PocketFives I’m sure he’d have a lot of insight to offer.
Only time will tell if Chew does write the article or whether it was just a case of drunken promises. With his recent impressive form at the tables and having made it through to Day 2 here at ANZPT Perth, something tells me he has other priorities at the moment.
Fellow blogging colleague Joshua Bell joined me and pounced on the food that the Merrywell waiters had to offer. The mini burgers and Lollipop Buffalo wings were a hit among attendees.
We had to leave relatively early to head back to work, but by all reports, many players partied until early hours of the morning. With Day 2 today, a couple of them may be looking a little worse for wear, but hopefully their hangovers aren’t too detrimental to their decisions at the tables.
We’ll be in the poker room at Crown Perth today to see what role the party plays in affecting the action. Stay tuned at PokerStarsBlog for all you need to know from the ANZPT Perth Main Event.
