It’s been a scorching summer in Australia and this week the city of Perth is no exception.
The latest ANZPT Main Event kicks off in the poker room at Crown on Wednesday and players will be looking to not only beat the heat, but their rivals on the felt.
After a fantastic APPT9 Aussie Millions series wrapped up in Melbourne only last week, we continue another great year of poker as the first stop on Season 7 of the ANZPT visits the other side of the country.
Far but not forgotten, Perth will be buzzing as online qualifiers, interstate travelers and hopeful locals all vie for poker glory. Only time will tell if we can eclipse last year’s Main Event field of 256 runners and a prize pool of $512,000.
The reigning champion is American player Patrick Mahoney who claimed $120,000 in Perth last year. We aren’t sure if he will be back to defend his title, but regardless there will be tough competition with a throng of regulars and home-town heroes looking to claim the victory for themselves.
Players heading to Perth have an array of poker action to choose from with 12 events on this leg of the tour, including rebuy, knock-out, six handed, PLO, teams and ladies events. The schedule caters for all types of interest and buy-in levels.
The tournament that all eyes on will be on, however, is of course the ANZPT Perth Main Event. This year it’s a $2,300 buy-in which runs with two Day 1 flights.
The Main Event commences at 7:00pm (GMT +8) local time on Wednesday and will play through until a final table on Sunday where we’ll see the first champion of Australia’s premier poker tour emerge.
In between the grind, players will be unwinding and enjoying everything Perth has to offer. There are world-class bars, restaurants and facilities all within walking distance of the poker room at Crown Perth. The perfect weather coupled with the experiences on and off the felt will make for a week not to be missed.
Everyone here will no doubt be looking to run as hot as the weather forecast and we’ll have all the stories and live updates of the action, so make sure to follow the Pokerstars Blog this week for all things ANZPT Perth!
