11:10pm: Tom Grigg eliminated in 2nd place; Brotha D Wins!

It’s over! After four hours of heads-up play we finally have ourselves a champion in local legend Danny “Brotha D” Leaoasavaii!

The final hand came when Brotha D raised to 160,000 on the button and Tom Grigg moved all in from the big blind for 880,000. Brotha D instantly called and the cards were on their backs.

Grigg: J♥ 10♠
Brotha D: Aâ™  Kâ™

Brotha D was in the lead with his ace-king but Grigg held live cards as the crowd were on their feet to sweat the action.

The flop fell 3♣ 4♦ 9♦ to miss both players, and the turn bricked the 6â™  . Grigg was left needing a jack or a ten on the river but it wasn’t to be as the Qâ™  bricked the river as a new champion of New Zealand poker was crowed in Brotha D! The crowd erupted in delight as their man had done it!

Brotha D celebrated with his entourage before consoling opponent Tom Grigg after their epic heads-up contest was finally over. Grigg shouldn’t be too disappointed as he takes home NZ$107,900 for his runner-up result.
