2.15pm: Teammates tangle at table 3
The media packed around table three as another big hand unfolded between PokerStars.net Team Asia Pros Bryan Huang and Raymond Wu. The action folded around pre-flop to America’s Brian Bumpas who raised to 3200 from late position. Russia’s Konstantin Tolokno called from the button but Huang re-raised from the small blind to 13,600.
Wu then moved all-in over the top from the big blind for 16,800; Bumpas and Tolokno got out of the way and Huang insta-called tabling 10♥ 10♦ but was well behind Wu’s Q♥ Q♦ . The board ran out 2♣ 3♦ 8♦ A♣ 3♣ and Wu doubled through to 39,500 in chips.
2pm: Fan to the max
Seated right in front of our media desk is the 2008 APPT Macau High Roller champion Nam Le. Arguably the most accomplished player in the field – he also has a WPT title to his name – Le has managed to sneak under the radar so far in this tournament but he was quietly amassed more than 75,000 in chips after less than two hours of play and looms as a major threat. Meanwhile Korean PokerStars Player Terry Fan continues to dominate the chip counts and is the first to crack the 200,000 mark, overtaking Brian Bumpas for the outright chip lead.
1.45pm: Bold move stings Ray
The four remaining PokerStars.net Team Asia Pros are having a mixed day so far. Celina Lin has crept up to 32,000 while Taipei’s Jonathan Lin hasn’t had too much action on his table, currently sitting on 26,000.
However it’s been a nightmare start for Raymond Wu; after having started the day with 90,400 he’s down to just 17,000 having been bullied out of a big pot by Mongolia’s Bold Uudnai, who shoved all-in for 145,000 on a board reading Kâ™ A♣ K♦ J♥ .
After Wu folded, the Mongolian gave him a big thumbs-up and flashed the A♥ before sending his hand into the muck. The opposite can be said for PokerStars.net Team Asia Pro Bryan Huang, who started the day with 16,100 in chips but has battled valiantly to work his stack up to more than 52,000.
1.30pm: Beauty and the beat
Philippines-based Brazilian Priscilla Meirelles has been among the steady stream of eliminations at the hands of Taipei PokerStars Qualifier Terry Fan. As Fan regaled between hands, he raised it up before the flop with 5♣ 2♣ from late position and was called by Meirelles in the blinds.
The rainbow board was spread A-3-4-6-8 with betting on every street, eventually forcing Miss Earth 2004 all-in on the river for 23,000. Though she turned over A-8 for two pair, she was never going to beat Fan’s nut straight.
Others KOed in the opening level included APPT Auckland ninth-place finisher Michael Shinzaki and ANZPT Adelaide champion Karl Krautschneider while Brian Bumpas is the chip leader on 170,000. Only 117 of the 153 starters survived the first 60 minutes of play.
