Tony Hachem’s strong ANZPT form has followed him to Macau

2.20pm: Team Asia slides, Team Australia climbs

Players are taking their first break of the day, which is providing a welcome break for the PokerStars contingent after a tough 30 minutes. PokerStars.net Team Asia’s Dan Schreiber slipped back to 62,000 while Jonathan Lin (45,000), Raymond Wu (41,000) and Celina Lin (13,000) also leaked chips. Team France’s Bertrand ElkY Grospellier is also looking for a chance to double up with less than 25,00 in his stack. Team Australia’s Tony Hachem has quietly amassed 62,000, his older brother Joe is back up to 33,000 while Eric Assadourian is holding firm with 33,000 as he eyes a second major title here after winning the 2007 APPT Macau High Roller title.

David Steicke’s hopes of a record fourth APPT cash have ended early on day two

2.10pm: Steicke, Scott put to sword

The PokerStars.net APPT Macau Main Event dreams are over for David Steicke and Stewart Scott. Chasing another major result in Macau, Steicke, holding K♣ Jâ™  , found himself up against the pocket queens of Australia’s Tu Thanh Le. The board fell Q♣ Kâ™  4♥ 10â™  5♣ , and Steicke was out. The 2009 Aussie Millions Main Event winner followed shortly after when the last of his short stack was committed with pocket fives. He made a set on the flop, but his opponent’s pocket eights improved to a set on the turn.

2pm: Setback for Saab

Jenn Barr caught the action with Aussie larrikin David Saab raising it to 3000 pre-flop, with one caller before a re-raise to 12,000. Saab pushed all-in, the caller folded and the player who re-raised called. It was Saab’s pocket 10s dominated by pocket queens, with the ladies holding firm. Saab is down to 35,000. Isaac Galazan has been eliminated after Peter Nguyen’s A-K connected on the flop against the WSOP bracelet winner’s pocket nines.

1.50pm: Leaders maintain status quo

Midway through the level, and there’s been little change at the top of the chip count with Kristoffer Myhre on 235,000 ahead of Kazakhstan’s Darkhan Botabayev (170,000), Dane Peter Nielsen (141,500), Wei Cheng “Jacko” Chiang (125,000) and Tom Hall (120,000). US PokerStars Qualifier Shawn Ryan was just KOed when his pocket 10s ran into the A-K of fellow qualifier, Tremzin Gleb of Russia, with a king landing on the flop. “I folded pocket …,” Daoxing Chen shouts. Did he say kings? “No queens, queens!” he quickly corrected, much to everyone’s relief.

Chalk one up for James Potter against fellow Melburnian Joe Hachem

1.40pm: Potter’s kings are good

James Potter went to battle with compatriot and Team PokerStars Pro Joe Hachem on a flop of J♣ 9â™  9♦ . Potter bet enough to put the 2005 WSOP champ all-in, with clock being called on Hachem as he agonised over the decision. He eventually folded and Potter flashed his pocket kings. “I think I was beat,” Hachem said with a wry grin. Jonathan Karamalikis doubled up when he rivered a set of sixes against pocket kings, but 2009 Aussie Millions champion Stewart Scott has slipped back to 24,000.

The stack of Team Asia’s Raymond Wu is heading in the right direction

1.30pm: Hachem halved

False alarm for the players when the clock indicated they were on break. “Come back,” bellowed one of the floor staff. More than 30 players were eliminated in the opening level, leaving 162 players of the 196 who took their seats at the start of the day. A quick trip around PokerStars Macau reveals that Team PokerStars Pros Bertrand ElkY Grospellier (60,000) and Joe Hachem (24,000, down from his starting stack of 48,000) are still in the hunt for the title. PokerStars.net Team Australia’s Tony Hachem has 41,000 and Eric Assadourian is on 36,000 while Grant Levy has been eliminated. Team Asia’s Dan Schreiber has bolted to 92,000 while Celina Lin is hanging tough with 19,000. Jonathan Lin (60,000) and Raymond Wu (53,000) have started solidly.
