Spring is also seen as a time of growth and new life. It’s a perfect metaphor for the remaining 168 players who are back in their seats at the Crown Poker Room for Day 2 of the APPT Melbourne Main Event.
Many of them will have scraped their way through the gloom of the opening day. They’ll be opening their bags this afternoon and digging deep around its insides to scrape out every last chip possible. Their stacks might not amount to much, but the seeds that were planted in winter, with a little nurturing, may emerge in spring bearing plenty of fruit.
At the moment, the man blooming the largest is Ted Nguyen who put together an impressive stack of 144,425 yesterday. He’s way out in front, with Tam Truong, Jai Kemp and Brendon Rubie the only other players tipping into six figures.
Also in contention are three members of Team PokerStars with Raymond Wu, Celina Lin and Team Online member Roy Bhasin all still in contention for the title.
As we arrived today, there was a little confusion over the start time. We thought it was 12:10pm so we were here nice and early, and so were many of the players, but it turns out that 12:30pm was the official kick off time. With 75-minute levels on Day 2, it has been announced we’ll be playing seven levels today. With a dinner break thrown in, we’ll be wrapping this up at about 11pm this evening.
