There are no more chances for players to pony up HK$25,000 and put themselves in contention to win the latest stop on Season 8 of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour. That’s because the second and final Day 1 flight of the APPT Macau Main Event is all over and boy it did not disappoint!

It was hoped at the start of the day that around 300 players would hit the tables of the PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams poker room. That would mean the total field would reach 500 players.

Registration was open for the first four levels of the seven and a half level day and once all the players were accounted for, a 282-player field had created a total field of 494 players. It might not be 500, but it’s still a great effort and a big increase on last year’s field of 388.

So, with 494 players, the all-important prize pool will see HK$11,021,140 (~US$1,420,000) shared amongst 60 players. The eventual champion will pick up a very large piece of that – HK$2,776,000 (~US360,000) to be a little more precise.

Of course, with Day 2 still far away in the future, the money isn’t completely relevant just yet. Well it might be on the minds of the players still alive and well, but it’s definitely not relevant to the dozens of players who were eliminated on Day 1b.

Some of those who hit the rail throughout the day include former Asia Player of the Year Shaq Lin, 2012 Aussie Millions runner-up Kenny Wong, recent APPT Seoul champion Chane Kampanatsanyakorn and WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Lim.

Of the 282 starting players, exactly 119 survived. They will now join with the 87 survivors from Day 1a and combine into a 206-player Day 2 field.

The player to finish up with the biggest stack on Day 1b was Peter Chan with 141,000 in chips. That is well behind Day 1a chip leader Bo “Box” Xie’s 166,000 and will be the fifth largest overall stack heading into Day 2.

Chan is a regular in some big cash games in Macau, but has yet to break through with a tournament victory. He has cashed for just over US$600,000 in his career, including a 10th place in the 2013 ACOP Main Event.

While they didn’t fare quite as well as Chan, Team PokerStars Pros Raymond Wu and Celina Lin both survived Day 1b. Lin started the day really strongly, but told us that at the end of the night a glass of orange juice was spilt on her and from there the poker went down hill. Lin still managed to finish the day with 25,900 in chips. That stack is quite a lot more than the 10,200 of fellow prominent lady of poker, JJ Liu.

Wu fared only just better than Lin, finishing Day 1b with 28,800. Wu will be hoping to use this APPT Macau Main Event as a dress rehearsal for his poker fantasy pool at the upcoming Asia Championship of Poker. In other news, Wu and Lin will interestingly start Day 2 seated side by side. Let’s see how that plays out!

Plenty of other players had solid days at the felt today, including Aussie Shivan Abdine, Haifeng Xue, Wei Chen, Antonio Martins, Victor Chong and Alex Lee, just to name a few!

All of these players will join with the Day 1a survivors and aim to make it through another tough day of poker and start making their way towards the money. You can find a Day 2 seating draw in the live reporting blog on the APPT8 Macau page.

Right now, 206 players are presumably aiming to get a good night’s rest before returning to the felt from 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The PokerStarsBlog will also return then and continue to provide all the stories and live updates from the APPT Macau Main Event.

Be sure to return then and in the meantime, check out the nightly notables below!
