Money, money, money.

That’s what poker is all about.

It’s also about prestigious titles like being an Asia Pacific Poker Tour champion and of course, bragging rights of being the best.

But mostly it’s about money.

That’s what the APPT Macau Main Event is about right now anyway.

It was just announced to the room that the Day 1b field weighed in at 282 entrants and when added with the 212 from Day 1a, means the total field is 494 players.

Considering last year’s APPT Macau featured 388 players, that’s a great effort!

If my trusty calculator is telling the truth, that’s a 106 player increase.

That field means the prize pool is a very large HK$11,021,140 (~US$1,420,000). Of that amount, the eventual champion will walk away with HK$2,776,000 (~US$360,000). Not a bad sum of money if I do say so myself.

It’s not only the champion who will pick up some cash for their time at the felt. Exactly 60 players will finish in the money, picking up at least HK$38,000 (~US$4,900).

Earn a spot at the final table and you will lock up HK$198,140 (~US$25,560) and depending on how you fare, can ride the pay scale all the way up to that mammoth top prize.

The full prize pool information can be found in the live updates section at the top of the APPT8 Macau page, so go check it out!

With the full entrants list and payouts now made available to us, I can also let you know some interesting stats about this event. Of the 494 players there were 40 total nationalities represented at the felt.

As usual in Macau, it was players from China who were the best represented, with 181 players – 36.64% of the field. Hong Kong was the next best, following by Korea and the USA tied for equal third.

I now present to you a pie graph outlining the field facts and figures.

Everyone loves a pie chart

Right now Day 1b is starting to head into the clutch moments of the night. Around 175 of the starting players are still alive and plenty of them are thriving and looking good to make Day 2. Some of those players include Raiden Kan, Team PokerStars Pros Celina Lin and Raymond Wu, along with APPT Cebu champion Hoang Anh Do and two ANZPT Sydney champions in Michael Kanaan and Gordon Huntly.

Make sure to stay locked on the live updates on the APPT8 Macau page to find out what these players, and more, are up to! Also be sure to check out the video below as the lovely Nicky Pickering chats to the just-as-lovely Celina Lin.
