There’s no denying that poker is a notoriously male-dominated activity. Since the game’s rise to popularity, women have always made up a small percentage of player numbers. While men account for the majority of the field here for APPT9 Seoul, there are a few ladies taking charge on the felt.

Of the 66 players remaining here late into Day 1B, nine of those are women, and a few have already established themselves as a force to be reckoned with at the poker table.

Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin is flying the flag for the ladies here today, taking down pots and accumulating chips. With eight APPT cashes last year she has already built herself an impressive resume.

Having earned just shy of half a million dollars in live cashes, Lin’s biggest score came in 2012, when she won the Red Dragon Macau Poker Cup for $110,077. With first place for this Main Event paying $151,359.87, we’ll see if she can take down her biggest score yet.

China’s Sixiao ‘Juicy’ Li is another lady among the action, already amassing around 70,000 in chips since the day began. Li found a fifth place finish here in Seoul during APPT7 for $33,865 and is well on her way to improving on that result this week.

Yu Kurita from Japan is here too after making a statement late last year with two cashes in the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Melbourne. The best of which was a fifth place result in the NHLE 6 Max event for $24,275. Kurita has over $125,000 in live earnings and will be looking to add to that here in Seoul.

Manami Hayamizu was another player representing the female contingent but was just eliminated only moments ago. Having made a name for herself after a number of final tables in Macau and two previous APPT Seoul cashes, unfortunately she won’t be making another deep run here in this Main Event.

With only one level of play remaining in Day 1B, the eliminations are starting to fly thick and fast. Eight ladies still remain in a field of 57 runners and we’ll be watching to see who manages to qualify for Day 2 here at APPT9 Seoul.
