The World Series of Poker Circuit stop in Hammond, which is just outside Chicago, drew hordes of players this past week including Team PokerStars Pros Chad Brown and Victor Ramdin, though the duo found contrasting success.

“Bad start to my trip to Chicago WSOP Hammond tourney. My flight got delayed I expect to start running better once I start playing,” Ramdin tweeted on his way to the event, but things didn’t get any better for him once he arrived. “Punt my chips off yesterday 1b of WSOP Main Hammond. Taking another shot today with a re-entry and a 9 (bb) starting stak #timetorunitup” Unfortunately, Ramdin was unable to “run it up” on Day 2 and made an early exit.

On the other hand, Chad Brown found quite a bit of success in Event #9: $365 Limit Omaha Eight or Better. “Made day2 in the Omaha hi lo. 11 left and I’m one the chip leaders. Back at 2pm tomorrow,” Brown tweeted on Friday, October 19. The following day, he continued to roll and soon found himself at the final table and in contention for the WSOP Circuit ring. “We are now at the final table of the Omaha Hilo event. After this I will enter the WSOPC main event. I’m 2nd in chips.”

Brown used his big stack to make it all the way to heads-up play, which he began with a chip lead over Nick Jivkov, who you may recall won a bracelet this past summer in the 43rd Annual WSOP Event #5 $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em for $189,818. Interestingly, that final table included Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu, who was felled in fifth place for $41,683.

Brown was primed to notch his first-ever WSOP win, but Jivkov had other plans. The latter managed to catch some cards and complete the come-from-behind victory. “Finished in 2nd place. Last 2 hands lost to runner runner. But was very happy with my play. I will play main event tomorrow,” Brown tweeted after the event.

Speaking of Negreanu, he was busy with a poker tournament of his own in Las Vegas. “Decided to jump into the $5k tourney @BellagioPoker and have a last longer bet with @phil_hellmuth I’m 3 hours late, he is nowhere in sight!” Negreanu said on Twitter. “Amazing! Only @phil_hellmuth can have 16 blinds, lose 8 straight hands and still have 2 blinds left! Limp fold for the win! Last Longer win!” he added a bit later. Lucky for him, Hellmuth eventually fell and he won the bet.

Refreshingly, Negreanu seemed to be enjoying himself: “Blinds 200-400 guy JUST sits down with fresh 20k and misclicks 10,100. I go for it in BB with KQ and bust his 99 on the river. Poker is fun!” Eventually Negreanu went on to make the final table: “Tough Final table in the $5k Bellagio. @VanessaSelbst @luckychewy@JohnnyBaxPoker @daniel_shak Chris Bjorin & Justin Young. Poker is FUN!”

What’s more, he did decide to take a more proactive stance on the hotly-debated poker “shot-clock” issue: “I’m going to take the poker shot clock issue into my own hands and call it after 2 minutes. I’m calling the clock on everyone! No exceptions.”

Negreanu ended up taking third in the aforementioned event, while Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst added another victory to her laundry list of titles. “Won it,” Selbst tweeted. “Thanks everyone for the congrats. To all asking, 90k for first. Feel very fortunate, ran great to beat a rly tough final table.”
